This week Allan is the spotlight student in his class. It has been a lot of fun for him and also for Chris and I. We chose pictures from different times in his life to make his poster. I got out all of my scrapbooking supplies, which are kind of a lot, and he picked out colorful letters and stickers. I helped trim up the pictures and he really put his heart in to it. He got to bring in something special to him and talk about it one day, and he chose a few of his Hot Wheels cars. Allan is a big collector of Hot Wheels. On Wednesday he got to bring in a book and read to the class. He chose a book by Shel Silverstein.
However today was a special day for me also. He got to have lunch with 4 of his friends, the teacher, and me in his class. They didn't have to go to the lunchroom or outside. We stayed in, ate and played a game. I brought Little Caesar's pizza and crazy bread for the kids and just enjoyed being there. One of the cool things that his teacher Mrs. Sanders does is have the kids sit in her directors chair, turn off most of the lights except one that is above the student, and then each child says "Allan you are special because..." and then tells him why he is special. I loved hearing all of the reasons why his friends thought he was special. A few things that were repeated by many of them were how smart is, how kind he is and how he always helps others. Then the teacher stood and talked about the things she likes about Allan and then it was my turn. I didn't know I would have to speak, but I was glad to do it. I made sure that I didn't embarass him and just talked about his kindness, thoughtfulness and eagerness to share all that he is learning.
Chris and I know how special our children our, as all parents should, but it sure is nice to hear how all of his friends and teacher feel also. I really enjoyed my time in his class and am again extremely happy that he is able to go to such an amazing school.
Thank you God for my beautiful children and numerous blessings.
