Week One of School

Ahh how time flies. The summer went by quickly and before we could blink it was time to head back to school. This is a year of changes. Cara started Kindergarten and Allan moved on from the primary section of the school to the intermediate section because he is now in 4th grade. It is amazing to me that my children are this big already!

We had a good first day of school. Drop off was a little tough for Cara, she wasn't sure she really wanted to stay. By the second day she was hugging her teacher goodbye and saying see you tomorrow. Whew thank goodness for that. Her teacher is amazing, she is the same teacher that Allan had for 1st grade and we loved having her then too. Allan's teacher is new to us but our first impression of her was most favorable. She seems kind and very excited about the year with this class. I am feeling blessed and so thankful for the wonderful teachers in our kids lives. A bad fit with a teacher can really hurt a child. I had that experience as a child and it really turned me off to school. I want to avoid that at all costs for both of my children.

Now that we are heading in to week 2 of school, Allan is starting to have homework. So the resistance begins. He doesn't want to do any homework on weekends and I don't want him to wait until the last minute and have to rush. So we are not on the same page yet, but I am sure we will get there. Chris and I are committed to avoiding the issues we had last year with homework by starting the year off right and making our expectations crystal clear. Once we get back in to the habits of the school year it won't be as much of a struggle.

Both kids are attending the Boys & Girls Club before and after school now. It is nice to only have one drop off & pick up spot finally. I am also working at the Club so it is nice to see the kids throughout the day as they are heading to their activities.

Here are Allan & Cara on the first day of school.

Until next time....
