Today's topic is seconds. People always want to talk about who came in first, who did this first, and on and on about first. So I am talking about how good a second something can be. I am a second child, second grandchild on one side, and second daughter. I think I am pretty special, and enjoy being second. Sometimes a person can be second and first, as demonstrated in this post below.
Chris is both. He is the second child, but first son. My sister is the first child, but second grandchild on one side. Allan my beautiful boy is my first son, first child, and first grandchild on my side. He is however the second grandchild & actually second grandson on Chris' side. Cara my wonderfully spunky girl is my second child, second grandchild on my side, but my first daughter, and first granddaughter on my side. She is the third grandchild on Chris' side, possibly the last on one side, yet the first granddaughter on Chris' side too. Then to get so uber technical, they are both my only children, my only boy and only girl. All I will ever have. And I love them, adore them, can't get enough of them. I would like them to stop growing for a while so I can just hold them, love them, smoosh them, and enjoy them. I know, I know, you wish you could also do these things to them but that would be a little creepy, unless you know them and love them. So if you are family, or "family" it is okay, but only for you :-)
Of course there are more seconds out there. Second chances, seconds on dinner and especially dessert, second thoughts, a second glance, all of which can be good things. So don't always look down on seconds and always seek out the first. You might miss out on something pretty fantastic. After all most of us like Tuesday the second workday, as opposed to Monday the first workday.
